Scar Stories
Patrizia Paolini has a scar on her chin. She is on a mission to find the person with the same scar, acquired in the same way, so that she can finally kiss them. Along the way, she has kept a visual and verbal record of every story she has come across. These stories are mingled with hers: raw, gross, angry and funny. Intercutting an intimate delivery with fragments of video projection, dance, comedy and Radio Four, this one-woman show opens a world of metaphor from smallest of marks. Patrizia is a writer, performer, cabaret artist, stand-up, poet, cook, pin-up and experimental musician who makes shows about death (fear of), sex, scars on chins, kisses and the awkwardness of communication. She has been practising for over 12 years and has collaborated with artists as varied as Ridiculusmus, Tim Crouch, Dende Collective and Carlos Cortes. She was a BAC Supported Artist from 2005- 2007 and has had a professional relationship with the venue for several years. She is part of INCUBATE, a two-year project scheme by Apples and Snakes aimed at developing a more experimental and diverse generation of spoken-word artists. Patrizia's past shows include Where Are You From?, created with David Woods and Jon Haynes of Ridiculusmus, a tragi-comic one-hander about identity and immigration that drew on her experiences of cleaning rich people's homes in Clapham and Wimbledon. She also collaborated with experimental musician Adam Bohman on Words, Words, Words, acquiring a cult following on the alternative music scene. Scar Stories is being staged on Sat 12 - 28 March at Battersea Arts Centre Lavender Hill, London SW11 5TN (travel - Clapham Junction overground station). 8pm. Adm: £10, conc £6.
