Breakfast With Emma
When Emma Bovary comes down to breakfast she doesn't know that her life is about to fall apart. An argument with her husband over scalded milk rapidly turns into a shattering confession and escalates into an inevitable tragedy. Based on the novel Madame Bovary by Gustav Flaubert Fay Weldon's brilliant adaptation of this groundbreaking masterpiece was first produced by Shared Experience in 2003 and subsequently toured throughout the UK. It demonstrates how a single conversation can devastate a marriage. Fliss Walton plays the squire's daughter and doctor's wife trapped in a lifeless marriage, whose longing for passion and upwards social mobility leads her to ruin, James Burton her dull, small town doctor husband, Jason Eddy, Chris Tester and Tamsin Clarke complete the cast. Director Helen Tennison brings this beautifully written script to life in her own unique and uncompromising style. Her previous dynamic and visually exciting productions at The Rosemary Branch, Measure for Measure 2007 and The Tempest 2008 were universally acclaimed and much enjoyed by teenage and adult audiences. Breakfast With Emma can be seen from Wed 11 March - 9 April at The Rosemary Branch Theatre, 2 Shepperton Road , London N1 3DT. Tues-Fri. 7.30pm Sat and Sun 6.30pm. Adm: £12, conc £10.
