American Songbook In London
Earlier this year Jeff Harnar's American Songbook In London series formed an exciting and unprecedented partnership with Pizza on the Park to present entertainment at the venue which will see shows from the best New York nightspots, including the Café Carlyle, The Algonquin and The Metropolitan Room, transferring directly into London and premium live entertainment offered seven nights a week year round.
They are very excited to have attracted screen and Broadway legend Liliane Montevecchi who makes her long awaited return to London in her acclaimed programme Back On The Boulevard. The legendary singer and star of stage and screen carved an illustrious career as a ballerina in Paris prima ballerina in Roland Petit's dance company. In the mid-1950s she was signed to a contract by MGM, which cast her in secondary roles in such films as The Glass Slipper and Daddy Long Legs, in both of which she was overshadowed by leading lady Leslie Caron, the Jerry Lewis vehicle The Sad Sack, and King Creole with Elvis Presley. In Hollywood she starred opposite legends such as Fred Astaire (with whom she danced a celebrated onscreen pas de deux) Danny Kaye, Marlon Brando, and Montgomery Clift. After some television work in series such as Playhouse 90 and Adventures in Paradise at the end of the decade, Montevecchi opted to leave Hollywood for a star spot in the Folies Bergere and toured with the company for nine years. She won critical acclaim for her performances in the original productions of Nine and Grand Hotel. Back On The Boulevard is a reprise of the widely acclaimed show created for her by Tommy Tune which she has performed at such illustrious venues as Carnegie Hall, Radio City Music Hall and The Hollywood Bowl. The venue for the Back On the Boulevard is Pizza on the Park - is situated at one of London's most prestigious addresses - facing Hyde Park and set against the historic Lanesborough Hotel on Hyde Park Corner where Park Lane meets Knightsbridge. Pizza on the Park is renowned as one of the most influential and elegant supper clubs in the world. Over the last 25 years it has been the home to a virtual who's who of the world's greatest performers including Blossom Dearie, Dave Frishberg, Bob Dorough, Gerard Kenny and Sir Richard Rodney Bennett. If you want a trip down memory lane you'll enjoying an evening of this intimate cabaret. It's an opportunity to be transported to an age of timeless sophistication and elegance, and an essential London experience.
