BETWEEN THE COVERS - Women's Magazines and their Readers
Indulge yourself with this captivating, colourful and fun exhibition that tells you everything you need to know about women's magazines, charting the evolution of women's magazines from the 1600s to the present day. NOT A FEMINISTS ART SHOW!
A group of sixteen artists will be exhibiting a diverse collection of work that focuses on the "fairer gender" without using the "female" word. A wide range of media from painting, sculpture, video and photography will ensure an exciting and eclectic mixture of work. This exhibition aims to offer a platform for discussion for a variety of questions such as: How are contemporary artists portraying women in a post-feminist society? CREWEL STORIES
Exhibition by Aya Haidar. Using recycled materials, fabric, paper, fibre and making these discarded materials useful again, Aya Haidar weaves narratives and adds layers of meaning to the new objects she makes from what is wasted. Growing up Aya recalls knitting with her grandmother as she recounted stories of her life in Lebanon. Venue: 98 Contemporary Arts and Learning, 198 Railton Road SE24 OJT (travel-train: Herne Hill).
